Events 2014

All events are held at Community House, Easemore road, Redditch (b98 8ye) at 7:30pm unless otherwise stated.

Friday 24th January 2014 at 7.30 pm

Linda & Jane will be putting on a live music Rat Pack style evening, with songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Jr.It will be held at Mettis Aerospace, Cherry Tree Walk, Batchley Redditch B97 6PB. There will be a bar & a finger buffet.Tickets can be obtained from Linda or Jane at the price of £6.00.

The event raised £980 for The Alex cardiac rehab and £120 for Alex Moran as part of his London Marathon donation.

Thursday 27th February - Our annual Dinner will be held at Kings Norton Golf club. The event startime is 7:00pm for 7:30pm. Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

The evening went very well, Patrick was on fine form with his jokes and the magician  kept us all entertained with excellent table magic.

April 9th Meeting - Linda will be giving an update on what's happening at the Alexandra Hospital and any important changes to the NHS.  There will be question and answer time.  Linda will be introducing Tony, the manager of a BHF charity shop.

Another well attended meeting. Tony from the heart foundation shop outlined the reasoning behind the creation of BHF shops. He also requested that if we had items we wished to donate he would be more than happy to receive them. He also asked for volunteers to work in the shop or offer help with ensuring the second hand goods they sell are in good condition. Please contact Tony on 01527 810680 if you may be able to help or have goods to donate. They will collect goods free of charge.

Patrick enlivened the evening, as only he can, with a few jokes and stories which were well received.

Linda gave an excellent presentation on the latest Heart drugs available along with some of the thinking behind old and new drug usage. She also outlined the Present position of the A&E department at the Alexandra Hospital. Linda reviewed the various departments which reside in either the Alex, Worcs Royal, The Walsgrave and Newcross hospital in Wolverhampton.

April 11th Golf day 1 - Please see  Photos in 'Items of Interest'

A great 'First' golf day for the newly formed Redditch Hale and Hearties golf club ! The sun shone, the air was clear, great company and to cap it all the balls mostly found the holes!  All followed up with drinks in the club house and an award ceremony.

June 11th Meeting - Dave Garry will be talking about heart transplants which he has himself experienced.

Dave gave inspired talk on what it means to be a Heart Transplant patient, the ups and downs of life after the going through what is a most daunting operation. Being a scouser, ex-policeman and govt administrator Dave gave a unique view on the proceedings prior to, during and after the operation. The operation took place in 2002 so Dave is a 12 year Survivor and looks in rude health for one who has gone through so much.

June 24th Golf Day 2 - To be held at Gaudet Luce, Droitwich. See news or items of interest (golf days) for more details. 

Our 2nd  Golf day was a success. The weather was again kind to us, the course was great and the food afterwards excellent. 3 teams of 4 battled it out for prizes which were kindly donated by Pete & Ian. The winning team (Ros Weston, Peter Judd, Ken Blears and Ian Ballinger) scored a huge 99 points. Nearest the pin prize went to Nigel Blake - the only player to actually hit the green! The longest drives went to Ros and Nigel Stockwell.

August 13th meeting - Quiz night - organised by Bob and Denise

An excellent evening with Patrick acting as question master, Much fun and hilarity was enjoyed by all.

September 3rd - Our Third golf day was held at Droitwich Golf club , in beautiful weather. The course was lovely but proved a bit tricky in places . Everybody played well and enjoyed the afternoon. Prizes for the first team, with a great score , went to Nigel Blake , Nigel Stockwell , John Mee and Patrick Comer.  Nearest the pin , with a fabulous shot on the 18th went to Roger Lomas and Nigel Blake and Jane won the longest drive prizes. The fantastic prizes were donated , kindly , by Ian and Lord Judd and Ros kindly fed us with bacon rolls before the event. After the prize giving we all went out for a meal and rounded the successful day off with a healthy drink !  Photo's are on the system.

Our next event will be back at Bromsgrove on Friday 17th october and we really would love some more players of any standard to come and join the fun. Please contact Jane on  503882   

October 8th meeting - AGM and 'Cheese and Wine'

An excellent evening with Patrick leading from the front. Jokes galore, even some we'd not heard before :-). Patrick thanked the committee for all their hard work over the year and also mentioned the trainers and a few others who had again worked very hard for the group over the year.   The committee stood down and it was proposed that they be re-elected enblock, the motion was seconded and approved. The night continued with cheese and wine and Patrick thanked Denise, Noreen, Gary and Pat who had worked hard to set-up the spread and drinks.

October 17th - Last Golf day of the year

The season finale was played at Bromsgrove on 17th oct. The weather was very kind to us and the course was in great condition.  We had 12 players , one Caddie and one "Stalker". Many thanks to Ros , Roger , Pete and Ian for donating the wonderful prizes. Kenn won nearest the pin , Ian won Longest drive for the men and Ros won the same for the Ladies .We welcomed a new society member , Andy , from the Redditch Wednesday class and he was in the winning team . Also in the winning team was John, Nigel S and  Jane. We will be having a winter break now , starting again in the Spring and we hope to welcome new players . as usual the photos from the day are to be found under items of interest - photos 

November 7th - Barn dance at Lickey Social club, Tickets are £7 each. There will be a bar and you are invited to bring along your own picnic. Start time is 07:00pm

Another great evening, lively music and everyone up and dancing from the start. Patrick almost got out of his chair once but changed his mind and decided instead to confuse us with a pair of horseshoe handcuffs, don't ask, he had brought along to entertain himself whilst the rest of us danced.

Over £750 was raised for cardiac rehab at the Alexandria Hospital and another £90 for Patrick's son Alex who will be running the London Marathon in aid of the deafblind  charity 'Sense'. 

December 10th meeting - Sherry and Mince pies, Carol singing, We would be thankful for any Raffle prizes you may care to donate. The first prize this year is an Apple iPad mini.
