November 2012

 Mr Brian Wattison

On 30th July 2012 Brian Wattison the Chairman of Hale & Hearties sadly passed away.

Our thoughts go to Brian's wife Pat, sons Steven and Neil, family and friends.

The group will miss Brian for all his hard work, which helped to make Hale & Hearties one of the best support groups in the UK.  Brian's brilliant sense of humour will surely be missed.  Brian very proudly received an award from HRH Duke of Kent for the work he did on behalf of the members.  This was well deserved.

Pat wishes to say a big thank you for all the kind thoughts also for the donations which were in excess of £1000.

Annual General Meeting

Thank you all, for the fantastic turn out at the AGM/cheese & wine evening.

The group welcomed two new members onto the committee, Patrick Moran as our new Chairman and Derek Duckhouse as a committee member.

Patrick took the chair and delivered his report remembering Brian and other members we have lost this year.

He also thanked Pat & Denise for their work within the group, and presented them with lovely bouquets of flowers.

Patrick thanked the other committee members, Bob, Gary, Linda & June.

Thanks went to the instructors and "Tea Team" for their support and hard work.

Bob the Treasurer took the chair and thanked the exercise instructors.  Bob mentioned the sad passing of Brian and that we must, as a group, carry on the legacy of Brian.

Dr E Melley will remain the President of the group.

After the committee agreed to stand for another year, everyone went on to enjoy the scrumptious cheese & biscuits.  The wine wasn't bad either!!

Wednesday 12th December

The Sherry and Mince Pie evening will be taking place, with carol singing.  This has always been one the most popular group meetings.

The grand Xmas raffle will take place, with some fantastic prizes.

1st prize = TV/DVD player.

2nd prize = £50 Tesco voucher

And there will be many more, all donations of bottles of alcohol, boxes of chocs & biscuits etc: will be gratefully received. All items can be taken to the exercise classes or given to a committee member.  Thank you.

We will not be asking for food items as we will be purchasing a food hamper.

14th February 2013 meal

It has been suggested that the meal at Kings Norton Golf Club in February, be renamed "The Brian Wattison Memorial   Dinner"

I hope this is agreeable to you all!!

The venue has been booked and menus will be available after the December group meeting.

All proceeds from the raffle will go to the BHF.  There will also be a free raffle, prizes TBA.

I am very pleased to announce that the Hale & Hearties website has now been updated.  It has taken some time for this to happen but thanks to one of our very active members Al West, the site is now looking good.

Thanks Al.

Great North Run for the BHF

On the 16th September, Patrick ran the Great North Run half marathon for the BHF. Patrick said that the run was even more gruelling than when he last ran it 2 years ago, also for the BHF. There was torrential rain for most of the run and his time this year was 5 minutes longer than last time. Patrick hopes to have raised about £3000 for the BHF. He also thinks that he has one more Great North Run left in him and so he hopes to make it a hat-trick next year, hopefully with his eldest son, Alex. Many thanks to all those who sponsored him so generously.

Well done Patrick, we are all proud of you!!!!

British Heart Foundation
