Wednesday 13th June

Unfortunately Mr Dimitri was unable to give his talk at the June group meeting, which was very disappointing.  Jane was very helpful and offered to talk to the group about the benefits of exercise.   The talk was very interesting and gave most of us food for thought.

The committee and group members would like to say a big thank you to Jane for saving the day.

Wednesday 8th August

Jenny Ashman, area co-ordinator for the County Air Ambulance Service, gave a fantastic talk especially about some of the interesting people she meets while fundraising.  Although the Air Ambulance service is very serious, Jenny was at times very amusing.  Hale & Hearties made a donation to this extremely worthwhile cause and members purchased items to help with the fund raising.

Jenny was extremely grateful for all the support.

Well done to Linda Barratt for completing 28 miles in the Bike Ride.  She raised £401.80 for the very worthwhile British Heart Foundation.
Linda wishes to thank all who sponsored and supported her.

I think Linda worked too hard on the bike ride; she is having a well deserved nap.

Walks

I would like to thank Sheila and Sam Louch for accompanying me on the walk at Arrow Valley Park on Sunday 18th June.  It was a lovely day, not too hot, just right for walking. Although only three people were there, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Drinking Bottled Water kept in a car

A lady recently got diagnosed with breast cancer and was told by her doctor that women should not drink bottled water, which has been left in a car.  The heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain chemicals that can lead to breast cancer.  So please be careful and do not drink the bottled water, which has, been left in this condition.

The heat causes toxins from the plastic bottle to leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue.

Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle when you can.

Coke

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

To loosen a rusty bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in coke to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.  The coke will help loosen grease stains.

It will also clean road haze from the windshield.

In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

The active ingredient in coke is phosphoric acid.  Its pH is 2.8.  It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.  Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the increase in osteoporosis.

I think we should stick to water!!!!!
